Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is clearly very keen to re-implement Sir Alex Ferguson’s stamp on Man United, and giving youth a chance is central to that. With that in mind, Dillon Hoogewerf could be part of that and become a United superstar.
The Red Devils are being linked with players all over Europe and Football Oranje have added a new name to the list in Hoogewerf. They’ve reported that the forward has refused to sign a deal at Ajax and favours a move to United.
The 16-year-old has scored 10 goals and made six assists for the Dutch champions’ U19s side, but the club says he’s refusing to sign his first pro contract with them. So, if United can jump in and bring him to Carrington then it’d be a great catch for the club.
They aim to turn away from the Galactico-esque transfer strategy they’ve had for the last few years and want to promote players like Hoogewerf to create a future generation of cup winners, just like Ferguson did all those years ago.
He could follow in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford and break into the first team within a couple of years. He’d learn so much from some of the best forwards in the world, like Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez, and if that doesn’t attract the youngster, I don’t know what will.
He’s shown confidence and bravery to not stay where he’s comfortable in Amsterdam, so he could have the character to make it big at Manchester United. The club could be about to land a future superstar if they can tempt him to England.
United fans, who do you think will be the next youth player to break through into the first team? Join the discussion by commenting below.
