Zidan has spent most of his career in Germany, representing Werder Bremen, Mainz and Hamburg before completing a move to his current club Borussia Dortmund in August 2008. However, just months before helping Egypt to their third straight African Cup of Nations victory last week, Zidan told Sky Sports of his wish to play in the Premier League or La Liga,
“To play in these two leagues is a dream…I loved it in Germany, but for me there is time for everything and I want to have a new adventure…I need another challenge and maybe it will come”.
It appears that Zidan will get his wish, with his performances for Egypt catching the eye of Europe’s elite. Zidan’s father told Egyptian television station Dream TV
“Arsenal , Manchester United and Barcelona have talked to Mohamed’s agent”.
Zidan is warmly regarded in his home nation, having helped Egypt to their last African Nations triumph in 2008. The player robbed Cameroon legend Rigobert Song of the ball to set up the winner in their 1-0 victory in Ghana. In CON 2010, Zidan made 4 appearances, scoring 1 goal. This season, the Egyptian has made 13 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, finding the net 3 times. Despite not being prolific, Zidan is known for his skill, versatility, and his penchant for a spectacular goal.
