Manchester United and Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed after hearing on talkSPORT that their target from Athletico Bilbao, Aymeric Laporte, has played down talk of an exit.
Both clubs had their eyes set on the defender and many punters thought it was a dead certainty that he would be him joining the Premier League.
But instead, he has thrown a spanner in the works, forcing the two Premier League heavyweights to look elsewhere as they both search for defensive reinforcements.
Throughout this campaign, both clubs have come under heavy scrutiny for their defensive frailties, so it is imperative that recruitment in the summer is spot on.
Laporte, who is rising star in La Liga, has featured in 21 league games this season and has been an integral part in the side as sit in 13th place.
In their last seven games, Bilbao have only conceded seven, which may not sound so impressive, but it is when you include their 5-2 defeat to Barcelona.
When asked about a move to England, Laporte said: “Here there are many people of experience and I’m learning a lot from them.
“I have played a lot of games and I want to continue to do what I’m doing.”
