One of the most promising youngsters in the eyes of the Football Transfer Tavern regulars Luke Shaw is set to sign a new long-term contract at Southampton this week, according to the Express.
The young left back turned 18 today and is set to be rewarded with a bumper pay packet at St Mary’s as the South Coast club continue to produce incredible talent from their academy ranks.
Shaw is an established first team player who is looking to follow in the footsteps of Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and earn international plaudits after coming through the ranks and having dislodged regular left back Danny Fox last term.
The England Under-21 international is set to commit to the Saints despite heavy interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham who are all willing to pay big money.
Southampton have continued their big spending this summer; which has surpassed £20 million following the high profile captures of Lyon’s Dejan Lovren and Celtic’s Victor Wanyama; but the contract of Shaw has been a priority a few months now after his outstanding first team performances.
Is Luke Shaw making the right decision by continuing his footballing education at Southampton for now? Let us know your thoughts below.
