Manchester United and City buoyed in attempts to land midfield star

eriksen.jpgA hush falls here at the Football Transfer Tavern as we learn from the Daily Mail that highly rated youngster Christian Eriksen may not renew his contract at Ajax.

The playmaker has been one of the up and coming talents in Europe for some time now and this news has alerted the big guns. Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham not to mention moneybags Manchester City are all now facing the mouthwatering prospect of landing a player who is not even 21, yet is so highly thought of around the globe.

Eriksen is currently under a contract in Amsterdam that is due to expire in 2014, and given the player is somewhat reluctant to pen a new deal, the club are thought to be open to selling the player as soon as possible in order to gain the maximum value possible from his potential transfer.

Ajax technical director and former Arsenal midfielder, Marc Overmars noted that: “Christian has informed us that he doesn’t want to sign a new contract right now, I think he and his agent want to see what opportunities present themselves this summer.”

Despite this and the obvious conundrum Ajax now face, Overmars did speak out about the club’s desire to keep the player claiming: “We want him to stay here for at least two more years, but the day he leaves us, he will be ready to play for the very best. He’s a player even the biggest clubs in the world could do with having in their squad.”
