Manchester United fans are breathing a massive sigh of relief here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Telegraph seem to think that the Red Devils are finally set to sell Rafael da Silva.
The right back has long been one of the players identified by our regulars as someone who needs to be shipped out of the club to the highest bidder – well, any bidder at all – and it seems that time for the 24-year-old may finally be up.
United are chasing Southampton right back Nathaniel Clyne and with Rafael entering into the final year of his current deal, all the signs are pointing to an exit for the defender as United look to cash in on the Brazilian and avoid losing him on a free.
Van Gaal and vice-chairman Ed Woodward are sitting down to hammer out their plans for the summer this week and not only will that include who discussing who they want to bring in, but it will also involve making initial decisions on who they want to see shipped out or handed a new deal.
Sadly for Rafael, it seems that he will be a victim of the former rather than the latter and that news had gone down a storm over by the pool table as our punters order a celebratory round of beers.
