Bruno Fernandes broke down in tears after Sporting’s pre-season fixture versus Valencia last Sunday; however, A Bola doubts a move is imminent.

It is reported by the Portuguese publication (via Sport Witness) that his club wants him to play in the Supertaca versus Benfica this Sunday after which he’ll be allowed to leave.

The Supertaca is the Portuguese equivalent of the Community Shield and pits the Portuguese Cup winners against the Liga NOS champions.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for a number of creative players this summer, including the likes of Paulo Dybala and Fernandes. Last season Paul Pogba finished with the joint-most big chances created in Manchester United’s side with seven, which isn’t an achievement at all as he ended up finishing in joint 42nd place in the top-flight. And, Pundit Danny Higginbotham even highlighed United’s need to sign a creative midfielder this summer, stating that they need to emulate Manchester City in signing a player with similar vision to Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva.

The 24-year-old Fernandes was imperious last season, scoring 32 goals and contributing 18 assists. His goalscoring saw him break Frank Lampard’s record for most goals from midfield, which previously stood at 27.

The Sporting captain was sensational last season and could plug a few gaps, including scoring from midfield areas after producing 32 goals in the 18-19 campaign. Last season the Manchester United midfielders, excluding Pogba, combined for just 10 goals, which was three goals less than the Frenchman managed on his own (13).

The Old Trafford giants suffered last season, meaning signing Fernandes has become a must. However, with just over a week left in the transfer window, and Sporting seemingly waiting until next week at least, it remains to be seen as to whether the Red Devils will get a potential deal over the line.

Manchester United fans, is Fernandes the midfield signing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needs this summer? Let us know what you think!
