The future of former Liverpool ace Xabi Alonso is once again the main topic of debate in the Football Transfer Tavern today.
The Daily Star has ignited the latest speculation by suggesting that both Manchester United and Chelsea are set to step up their chase for the Real Madrid midfielder.
It is well known in the tavern that the 31-year-old’s contract expires in the summer and he will become available on a free transfer.
This has made him a prime tramsfer target for a whole host of European sides including Serie A duo Juventus and AC Milan with the Red Devils and Blues fighting in out for a possible Premier League return.
Alonso spent a wonderful time at Liverpool after joining from Real Sociedad in 2004, making over 100 appearances for the Merseyside outfit. And punters in the bar are now hopeful that they could see the classy midfield man arriving back in England soon.
David Moyes is still seeking a top class midfielder to add to his current side while Jose Mourinho would love a reunion with the player who performed admirably under him at the Bernabeu in the last few seasons.
Will Alonso be one of the big movers this January transfer window? Let us know your thoughts below.
