Manchester United & Chelsea’s January transfer hopes now OVER

GodinManchester United and Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hit with bad news in the Daily Star after Diego Godin ruled out a move to the Premier League after saying that he wants to stay at Atletico Madrid.

Captain of the Spanish champions, Godin has said that he wants to stay at the Vicente Calderon for ‘many years’ to come.

This has really puts a spanner in the works for Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal who were hoping to land the Uruguayan international in January.

Both managers were hunting for defensive reinforcements as they are looking to fine tune their squads in the run in to the end of the season.

But they will have to look elsewhere after Godin ended any speculation that he would leave Atleti.

He said: “At this point, I feel that I’m in the best time of my career and I still see my retirement very far.

“I would like to stay many years here (at Atletico Madrid).

“But it is true that I also have an attraction from my country and at any point in the future I would like to return to Uruguay, to respond to the love they have showed me during this years.

“But just the time will say. It is difficult to know where I will be playing in as many years.”
