Manchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking forward to watching new signing Juan Mata make his debut for the club tonight in their Premier League clash against Cardiff City.
The 26-year-old Spanish international became the club’s record signing on Saturday as he completed his switch from Chelsea, but manager David Moyes was quick to inform rivals that he hadn’t finished in the transfer market.
Now Alex Richards from The Mirror has fetched news about another possible arrival at Old Trafford before the deadline closes on Friday.
He tells interested punters that the Red Devils are now close to landing FC Porto midfielder Fernando as Moyes lines up his next January signing.
Liverpool were thought to be watching the 26-year-old anchorman but it appears that United have stolen a march on their rivals as Moyes seeks reinforcements in his midfield.
The defensive midfielder is well regarded within Europe and United hope that he could set a defensive platform in the team. With his ability to play as a central defender as well, this will certainly offer Moyes more options across his troubled side.
The Brazilian, who recently changed his international allegiance to Portugal, doesn’t require a work permit and Richards suggests that this fact could see him heading to Manchester in the next few days.
Fernando is understood to be available for around £6 million, with his contract at the Estadio Dragao expiring in the summer, and that has left United supporters in the bar awaiting further news on his potential arrival.
