Southampton’s Luke Shaw looks all set to become the first signing of the Louis van Gaal era according to the Daily Star and we in the Football Transfer Tavern cannot help but be impressed.
Compared to the hapless David Moyes, it seems that Dutchman van Gaal is not taking any chances and will secure some top signings for Manchester United – seemingly before the World Cup begins.
Not only that, but it is a massive coup for the Red Devils to land Shaw who is one of the most coveted players in the league at the minute and also had Chelsea sniffing around.
The 18-year-old will not come cheap, but as our punters claim, at that age he could well spend the majority of his career at the club and indeed become a very good buy in terms of value for money.
United are in desperate need of strengthening at the back and are not only losing the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic this summer but also look like they will lose Patrice Evra, meaning that the summer recruitment drive will not stop at Shaw.
Do you think Van Gaal is making a good first signing? It can’t be worse than Fellaini at least! Let us know your thoughts below.
