Manchester United are keen on tying down defender Eric Bailly to a new deal with the club.
Despite signing Harry Maguire in the summer and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking like he is going to go with Victor Lindelof, who started last weekend, at the side of the England man, the Red Devils are still wanting to get Bailly to sign a new contract.
According to the Sun, United are trying to protect themselves from Bailly walking away from the club for nothing, and are keen to sit down and discuss a new deal for the 25-year-old.
The report claims that manager Solskjaer remains a fan of Bailly and sees him as a crucial part of the team’s plans going forward, while the club are also keen on protecting an investment which set them back over £25m just a couple of seasons ago.
The 25-year-old is currently out injured, but the former Villarreal man does have the potential to be a dominant force at the back for United when he is fit.
For instance, Bailly won 37 of his 50 aerial duels last season (via Premier League’s official website).
United will therefore be hoping to keep hold of Bailly at least for the short-term as they try and build a defence around Maguire with key back up players such as Bailly ready to step in when necessary.
Bailly is certainly not a lost cause by all means and it’s the right thing to do for United to give him a new deal.
He’s still only 25 and at times he has looked really good in the red of United. When he’s back from injury, he could well play a crucial role if anything happens to Maguire or Lindelof.
