Manchester United and Chelsea fans are given good news by the The Express here in the Football Transfer Tavern today.
Real Madrid have set an asking price of just £19 million for Raphael Varane with the Frenchman becoming unhappy at his lack of first team football at the Bernabeu.
This would be a great signing for either of the Premier League sides as the 21-year-old has shown great maturity and talent at such a young age in a demanding environment such as Real Madrid.
And this is one of the many reasons why both the Blues and Red Devils both went head-to-head for his signature in the summer but neither could pull off a deal.
Now it appears they may be able to make a move happen this time around with both set to renew their interest in January.
Jose Mourinho’s former links with the Spanish club mean Chelsea as favourites to sign him after it was the Portuguese boss who initially thrust him into the Madrid first team following Varane’s switch from Lens.
Although if a move to Stamford Bridge did happen, he would still be unlikely to start straight away and would have to wait until at least the end of the season to break the strong partnership forged between John Terry and Gary Cahill.
This is why our resident punters believe a move to Old Trafford may prove more desirable for Varane as he would be at the forefront of the restructuring of Manchester United’s leaky defence, which is an opportunity that doesn’t come around too often.
