Manchester United dealt blow as summer transfer target signs new Atletico deal

Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still a grumpy bunch after the disappointing 1-1 draw with Swansea City at Old Trafford this weekend!

Jose Mourinho’s team struggled to a draw against the Premier League relegation candidates, with a Gylfi Sigurdsson goal giving the Swans a vital point that helps them in their fight against relegation.

But for United, it’s another blow to their top-four hopes and they’ve suffered a transfer hit today to make it a seriously disappointing couple of days.

According to the Daily Star, Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez has signed a new five-year deal at the Vicente Calderon, putting an almost instant end to any interest United might have had in the player.

Our United-mad barman here in the Tavern hasn’t been best impressed with his sides’ defending in recent weeks and felt Hernandez would have been a great option in defence but now, it doesn’t look like it will happen.

United face Celta Viga in the first round of their Europa League semi-final on Friday.

United fans, how disappointed are you to have not signed Hernandez? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
