Metro have a cracker for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara has opted to snub the Premier League and Manchester United this summer.
The talented Spaniard has decided that a move to Old Trafford is not for him – something that has shocked our fans here in the tavern who noted that his best chance of playing football week in, week out and winning titles seemed to be at Old Trafford – but now he has opted to join his former manager instead.
Now in charge at Bayern Munich, Pep Guardiola has managed to convince the 20-year-old to follow him to Germany and become one of his new signings.
Given the competition in the middle of the park at Bayern, one wonders if Thiago will not face exactly the same issues as when he played at the Camp Nou struggling to oust Xavi and Andres Iniesta from their central midfield positions.
David Moyes is understandably upset at missing out on the star of the European Under-21 Championships this summer and has turned his attentions elsewhere. Bayern have paid just over £21 million to land the midfielder – more than they had to trigger his release clause but what seems like a good will gesture from their former manager may well have helped push the move through faster.
Manchester United fans. How disappointed are you to see Thiago snub the Red Devils for Bayern instead? Let us know your thoughts below.
