Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking up eagerly at reports that are surfacing from the Daily Star that 19-year-old Anthony Martial has completed his medical ahead of his proposed £36m move from Monaco, which they are aiming to complete before the 6pm deadline.
Should the transfer go through it will make Martial the most expensive teenage transfer in world history, surpassing the transfer of Lucas Moura to Paris Saint Germain in 2012.
Martial is player who has regularly been compared to Thierry Henry in style and ability, a striker who can also play on the wings. Although fairly unproven at senior level his youth record is impressive. He is blessed with a combination of strength and blistering pace and could turn out to be just the player Manchester United have been after to help solve their goalscoring problem of late.
The transfer has Manchester United fans well and truly torn with debates here in the Transfer Tavern, some Manchester United fans think he is a worthwhile investment, at only 19 he’s already caught the eye of France boss Didier Deschamps having been called into the Senior France squad, but it’s all about potential.
Fans on other side of the debate think he is vastly overpriced with Lyon forward Lacazette being named as a player potentially available at a similar price – a striker with a much more proven track record being Ligue 1’s top scorer last term with 27 goals, compared to Martial’s 8.
