Manchester United enter race for Tottenham target?

coentrao.jpgHere in the Football Transfer Tavern punters are keen to hear the latest claims from Marca who note that Manchester United now have their eye on Tottenham transfer target Fabio Coentrao.

The left back has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid for some time now and it seems that both his fellow players and manager Carlo Ancelotti have given their blessing regarding a move.

Coentrao has never been happy at Los Blancos and not only has the stop start nature of his time there affected him but also the constant negative attention from the Spanish press and specifically Marca.

Now it seems that after asking for a move, the player has a host of options.

Not only do Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain want the defender but also Manchester United and Spurs.

It had been thought that Spurs would be the ones to land the full back as part of the deal that took Gareth Bale to the Bernabeu, yet Coentrao himself would prefer to play for a club who are in the Champions League this season.

A move to link up with David Moyes, not Andre Villas-Boas is the one that the Portuguese international favours and given the struggle of Manchester United to land Leighton Baines, that could well become reality in the coming days.

Angel Di Maria has also been linked with the aforementioned clubs, yet has expressed a desire to stay at the club and fight for his place, even in the wake of Gareth Bale’s imminent arrival. Not only this but Carlo Ancelotti and the players are also keen to keep hold of the winger.

Will Coentrao make the move to United? Let us know your thoughts below.
