The Football Transfer Tavern has been left shocked as news of a possible high profile transfer battle emerges this evening.
Gary Jones from the Daily Star suggests that Manchester United are plotting a bid for Real Madrid attacker Alvaro Morata as they try to beat Arsenal to his signature.
Jones explains that his sources from Spain have indicated that United boss David Moyes is monitoring the 21-year-old with a view to a possible summer bid.
It appears that Morata could leave the Bernabeu in the summer after Carlo Ancelotti decided that his other young striker Jese has more potential with Morata’s contract set to expire in 2015.
Morata seems to be prepared to leave the La Liga giants as he seeks regular first team football with only 12 league appearances under his belt this year and he has been strongly linked with the Gunners, who wanted to take him on loan in January.
Any move for the Spanish Under-21 international by United could see the departure of Mexican ace Javier Hernandez, who has struggled for regular game time this season.
