Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been shaken by the loss of Luke Shaw to injury this week, after he sustained a horror double fracture to his right leg in the Champions League with PSV.
With him set to be out for up to nine months and the majority of the season, rumours have gathered momentum here in the Tavern that United will look to buy cover for the England left-back in the January window.
This has seen them heavily linked to exciting young full back Jose Gaya of Valencia as reported in the Express via Spanish publication Fichajes.
The 20-year-old is highly-rated by the Spanish club and made 37 appearances for them last season, even at such a young age.
Our landlord here in the Tavern admits he is quick, solid and has a good delivery from the left hand side when getting forward which makes him a reliable and useful player for any team.
It is believed that Gaya has a £36m release clause in his new contract and Manchester United could be willing to spend that much to bring him to the club, with van Gaal seemingly being given a bottomless pit of money to spend since his arrival.
United currently have Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind as players who can cover for Shaw, but neither is are out-and-out full-backs, and are more suited to playing centrally!
If they did sign the Spanish player, the question then arises of who plays when Luke Shaw returns from injury.
