Manchester United face battle for top target

rodriguez.jpgOne of our punters quips that Manchester United always seem to dominate the headlines here at the Football Transfer Tavern and given the Daily Express seem to agree, it is hard not to discuss the latest rumour coming from the club that to land Porto’s James Rodriguez they will have to battle two La Liga giants and a Premier League heavyweight to boot.

Sir Alex Ferguson has long been after Porto midfielder and the potential deal is a fairly frequent topic of conversation here at the tavern, yet now not only will Fergie face competition from Chelsea, Napoli and Real Madrid for the player but Atletico Madrid have also joined the chase.

The club are certain that they will lose Radamel Falcao in the summer and now are looking to bring in top quality players all over the field to compensate for his loss. Diego Simeone has identified Rodriguez as one of his top targets and the fact that United have tracked the Colombian international for so long will certainly not deter the club from their individual pursuit.

In fact, the only club who will profit from the increased amount of interest in the highly rated player will be Porto as we all know a bidding war drives up the price of players quite significantly.

Can United still push on and sign James Rodriguez despite Atletico’s interest? Rate this rumour below.
