Manchester United: Fans angry youth side is more deadly than first team in front of goal

Manchester United’s first team have scored just nine goals so far this season, yet their under-18s side have bagged 21 already. In comparison, Manchester City have scored 27 and top-of-the-table Liverpool have netted 20, so United’s rivals doing so well will compound fans’ misery even more.

They’re averaging 13.8 shots per Premier League game (stats by WhoScored), whereas City take 21 shots per game, suggesting United just don’t pull the trigger enough to win games. However, Liverpool only average three shots per game more than United and they’ve got a 100% points record so far this season. This brings the quality of United’s forwards into question, who are clearly performing much poorer in front of goal than their rivals from Merseyside.

United’s official Twitter account posted a video of all their Under-18 team’s goals so far this season, showcasing how well they’re finishing their chances. United fans in the replies weren’t in the celebratory mood and chose to focus on the first team’s woes instead.

You can see some of their reactions to the tweet below:

United fans, what do you think needs to change for your forwards to get back into goalscoring form?
