Manchester United: Fans are calling for Fred to be played by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United were shocked on Saturday afternoon when they were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford and fans were not happy with one of the decisions Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made ahead of the game.

Jordan Ayew opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half when he calmly slotted past David de Gea before Marcus Rashford had missed a golden opportunity to score from the penalty spot.

Daniel James would have felt he did enough to nick a point for the hosts when he levelled the tie in the dying moments of the game with a superb effort. However, Patrick van Aanholt appeared to have other ideas.

De Gea made an error as he could not keep the left-back’s driven shot from hitting the back of his net and saw his team lose to the Eagles for the first time ever in the Premier League era (Sky Sports Statto).

Fans lambasted their side on Twitter after the match, with many of them calling for Solskjaer to start playing Fred, failing to understand as to why he was being left out of the team.

The 26-year-old Brazilian really struggled to make an impact at Manchester United in his first season at the club following his reported £52million move from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer (Sky Sports). He managed to make just 25 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions, with 17 of those coming in the Premier League, scoring once and providing one assist (Transfermarkt).

It had been reported by Fotomac (via Sport Witness) that he was allowed to hold talks with Galatasaray about a potential summer switch, but it seems fans believe he still has a role to play at Old Trafford.

Here are just some of their reactions to his omission on Saturday…
