Manchester United fans took to Twitter full of humour as they asked if Bobby Charlton can play for the club’s first team as the Old Trafford legend turned 82 years old today.

Charlton is a legendary figure for both United and England. The player made more than 700 appearances for the north-west club, scoring 249 goals (via Man United). He also won an array of trophies including three top-flight titles and a European Cup (via Transfermarkt).

However, Charlton’s most famous moment came on the afternoon of the 30th of July 1966, when he played for England in their World Cup triumph over West Germany.

The 82-year-old also enjoyed great personal success, winning Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year and European Footballer of the Year awards.

However, as of right now, United are struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League table after just two wins in eight games.

As a result, fans took to Twitter to ask if the veteran forward can still play for the club. Here is a selection of tweets from the Old Trafford faithful:

Manchester United fans, who would you swap an 82-year-old Bobby Charlton for in the current starting XI? Let us know your thoughts!
