Jesse Lingard has missed Manchester United’s previous two league games against Newcastle and Liverpool with a hamstring injury sustained against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League at the start of October.
Is this the worst Manchester United team in the Premier League era?
The 26-year-old had been largely ineffective for the Red Devils prior to picking up that injury, however, registering no goals or assists in the league or Europe all season, per Transfermarkt.
Indeed, the England international has struggled for form all year, with his last contribution for United in the Premier League coming ten months ago in December 2018 (via Goal).
Lingard has registered just one assist this time out – in the EFL Cup win over Rochdale – with many fans now vying for him to be replaced by someone like Leicester City’s James Maddison, who is currently flying with the Foxes this term having scored three goals and provided two assists in all competitions.
Yesterday, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided an injury update on Lingard, claiming that he should be returning to the first-team fold soon.
It’s fair to say that these Red Devils fans aren’t too fussed by his return…
Hopefully Jesse Lingard is not back anytime soon
