Manchester United: Fans less than pleased following predicted XI including Jesse Lingard

The Old Trafford faithful were less than gleeful after The Evening Standard released a potential lineup for the Chelsea game on Sunday.

The Evening Standard’s James Robson believes Scott McTominay could be a surprise package in a role alongside Paul Pogba this season, while Jesse Lingard could potentially be key to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pressing game.

It was the part about Jesse Lingard that made the Manchester United fans unsure ahead of the start of the new season.

The 26-year-old was in less than impressive form last season as he scored just five goals and got just four assists in more than 35 games in all competitions.

His form was just one part of a bad season for the north-west club, who finished sixth in the Premier League as well as suffering a hammering at the hands of Barcelona in the Champions League.

Lingard isn’t a name that is getting the fans excited ahead of Sunday’s opening game against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Here is a selection of tweets from Manchester United fans following the report by The Evening Standard:
