Manchester United fans were less than pleased after it was revealed that Mike Dean would take charge of their side’s game against Southampton.
The Red Devils have a good record under the watchful eyes of Dean, winning 37 and losing just 17 of the 67 games he has refereed (via Transfermarkt).
However, Dean was involved in the controversial opening game at the London Stadium between West Ham United and Manchester City.
The Heswall-born referee made history in the club’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers last season, becoming the first referee to send off 100 players in the Premier League.
Manchester United will be looking to bounce back after a humiliating 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace last Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Saints come off the back of two consecutive wins against Brighton and Hove Albion and Fulham respectively.
The Old Trafford faithful are worried about the appointment, despite their seemingly strong record under the referee.
