Manchester United won’t be winning the Champions League for a while, so the fans will take any and every opportunity to be reminded of their 2008 and 1999 Champions League winning sides. Marcus Rashford will know that, and he’s given the fans a throwback to the famous final of ’99 with one of the Red Devils’ favourite tweets of 2019 so far.
— Marcus Rashford (@MarcusRashford) 7 January 2019
United’s 21-year-old wonderkid posted a picture of himself, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial all sitting around their interim manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as the Norwegian spoke to them. However, the caption is what made it for the fans, as Rashford wrote ‘Seconds left… Becks whipped in a perfect corner. Teddy flicked it on. The rest is history.’ and the United have been eating it up.
At the time of Solskjaer’s famous winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final of 1999, Rashford hasn’t even turned 2-years-old. However, he will still understand what the win meant to both the club and the city, seeing as he grew up as a boyhood Manchester United fan. The Red Devils will be desperate for Rashford to emulate their current manager, and if he keeps going the way he is, on the pitch and on social media, then he could well do that.
