Many Manchester United fans were left incensed by the club’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier.
Well-respected journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic responded to a fan when asked about the 30-year-old, to which he said that there is truth in the whispers of a Red Devils move, but a swoop in January would be difficult due to the player’s recent FA ban.
Trippier, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur, was recently banned from all football-related activities for 10 weeks by the FA over a betting charge relating to his move from the North London club in 2019.
Before the Englishman was suspended, he has averaged a match rating of 7.28 from 13 La Liga starts, with a pass success rate of 81.6% and four assists to his name (Whoscored).
Should Manchester United sign Kieran Trippier?
With this in mind, supporters were not impressed with the club’s ambition, with some suggesting that this move should have been carried out several years ago.
