Manchester United: Fans want Nemanja Matic gone

When Nemanja Matic joined Manchester United from Chelsea for £40m in 2017, there were high hopes that the Serbian midfielder would replicate the form he displayed at Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old won two Premier League titles with the Blues during his second spell with the club after moving from Benfica in 2014, becoming a fan favourite in west London under former boss Jose Mourinho.

When Matic joined United, some were left perplexed as to why the Blues were allowing a key midfielder – who had just helped them win the league title – depart. But wind the clock on two years and it is a very different situation altogether in the north west.

Matic has fallen below both Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay in the pecking order at Old Trafford and has started just one match for the Red Devils this term – Saturday’s win over Leicester due to Pogba being out injured.

The former Chelsea man could now leave the club next year amid interest from the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus (Calcio Mercato via BBC Sport).

It’s fair to say that United fans are delighted by this news. Here’s how some reacted on Twitter…
