Manchester United: Fans sad to see Darmian go and wish him well after he completes move back to Italy

Manchester United fans gave their good wishes to Matteo Darmian after the defender completed a move back to Italian side Parma.

The Italy international has been at Old Trafford since 2015 after signing from Serie A side Torino for a fee believed to be £12.7m. The fullback has moved to Parma for a mere £1.4m, a loss of more than £11m for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side (via The Sun).

Fair to say, the Italian’s move hasn’t quite gone to plan as he made 92 appearances in his four years at the club, including just seven appearances last season (via Transfermarkt).

He has also come in for some heavy criticism in the past, with some fans slamming him for a lacklustre performance against Leicester last year.

The move away for Darmian follows the high profile departures of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku, who also moved to Italy, joining Internazionale.

Supporters, however, have since wished the 29-year-old well following his move as they took to Twitter to give their best wishes.

Here is a selection of tweets from the Old Trafford faithful:
