There is some excitement in the Football Transfer Tavern today as reports start to emerge that one of the finest young European midfielders could be ready to make a move to the Premier League.
The Daily Star report that Manchester United have been put on red alert after Borussia Dortmund admitted that German midfield star Ilkay Gundogan may depart if his £25 million valuation is met.
The 23-year-old, who has won eight caps for his country, is yet to sign a new deal at the Westfalenstadion and now rumours are spreading in the tavern that he could be ready to make a £25 million switch to the Premier League.
Today’s reports have come from Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke who confirmed that while they are resigned to losing Robert Lewandowski on a free next summer, he is still unsure where Gundogan’s future lies.
“It is our absolute desire that besides Robert Lewandowski no other regular player leaves the club,” Watzke said.
“Only in the case of Ilkay Gundogan, we do not yet know how it will turn out. We would love to extend (a contract) with him.”
Recent suggestions in the tavern from Spain, indicated that a deal was in place to see the midfielder join Real Madrid with former Liverpool loanee Nuri Sahin completing a permanent move back to his former club.
However those rumours have been denied by his father and hope remains in the bar that the classy midfield man could be gracing the Premier League soon.
United boss David Moyes is still seeking a dynamic midfielder for his struggling side while Arsene Wenger will look to link up Gundogan with his international team-mate Mesut Ozil at the Emirates Stadium.
