Manchester United given the green light to sign 6ft defender?

Gregory van der Wiel (Paris Saint-Germain)It is starting to be a common theme here in the Transfer Tavern for United fans having a few pints – Louis Van Gaal getting ready to buy yet another Dutch star during his time at Old Trafford.

With the likes of Daley Blind and Memphis Depay already being bought into the club by the Dutch manager, the next player on his list is said to be pacey full-back Gregory Van der Wiel according to The Daily Star.

With the departure of Angel Di Maria to PSG looking like it will be confirmed in only a matter of time, this has paved the way for a possible switch in the other direction of the defender Louis Van Gaal has previously managed at International level.

With 41 appearances for the national team Van der Wiel would provide some welcomed competition to recent arrival Matteo Darmian and the player himself is surely going to be open to linking up with his compatriot Van Gaal.

Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern had his say on the matter at hand, as per usual, “Van der Wiel is a classy defender, and would add a new element to United’s defence – but I feel the club need to be concentrating on sealing a deal for a central defender – someone like Mats Hummels would be the man!”
