Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been licking their lips today after it emerged that their pursuit of one of Europe’s deadliest forwards wasn’t dead in the water, as it previously seemed.
The Red Devils have been optimistically chasing Thomas Muller for some time, seeing a £60m bid reportedly rejected over the summer by Bayern Munich whilst the German clubs CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated that any approach by the Premier League side was pointless.
However, Muller himself appears to have a different stance on the situation as he told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that the lucrative money on offer in England is extremely appealing.
“The wages that are being paid in the Premier League are very tempting. It would be hypocrisy to deny that.”
“I know that a lot of German clubs are unhappy with the Premier League clubs’ spending, but I think it is something good for all clubs in the end. It can only be a good thing for football when clubs invest so much money.”
It remains to be seen whether United will follow up these comments with another approach but the difficult aspect of any deal would be persuading the Bundesliga champions to sell their prized asset.
Despite the comments, our regulars are not convinced a deal for Thomas Muller is one that can be completed anytime soon and have urged their club to pursue other targets.
