Manchester United fans down in the Transfer Tavern are wondering why their side still have Marouane Fellaini registered on their books.
United have seemingly signed an upgrade in Nemanja Matic and surely it’s time for the Red Devils to let go of the frizzy haired big man.
Though, despite being viewed as surplus to requirements for some, Mourinho has maintained his soft spot for the Belgian.
Fellaini doesn’t appear to have his position under threat at Old Trafford with Mourinho utilising his strength and height in a number of pre-season fixtures.
The 29-year-old is far from a fan favourite at the Theatre of Dreams.
Fellaini is a perpetual reminder of United’s dreadful 2013/14 season under David Moyes.
He was the Scotsman’s only summer signing and set the tone for the disappointing season ahead.
Just last December, the 6ft 4″ midfielder was booed by his own fans as he made a late sub appearance against Tottenham.
Mourinho has a weakness for towering, powerful and aggressive footballers.
Perhaps that’s Fellaini’s saving grace.
The Portuguese boss’ sides of the past, including Porto, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea have always had the ability to bully the opposition when necessary.
Nevertheless, with the more capable Matic anchoring the side, it’s time United cash in on the Belgian who is seriously deprived of self-discipline.
