Manchester United once again lost ground in the race for the Premier League title with a draw against newly promoted Wolves this weekend.
The Red Devils had seemingly put their early season woes behind them, but once again put in a poor performance at Old Trafford to send the home supporters home a frustrated bunch once again as questions continue to be asked about Jose Mourinho’s influence at the club.
This season has seen a return to form for left back Luke Shaw, but despite his performances, there is still a nagging doubt about his ability at the very top level, and we here at the Transfer Tavern think United should indeed sell him on and sign a replacement in Spanish left back Jose Gaya.
The 23-year-old has turned into one of the stars of La Liga over the last few seasons, and is highly rated both by club and country. Valued at £35m, Gaya would be a superb signing for the Red Devils, and if a deal could be struck, he would represent an instant upgrade on former Southampton man Shaw.
Quick, brilliant going forward, and someone who would get the Old Trafford crowd of its feet, Gaya would be a superb addition for United at the moment.
