Manchester United fans think they’ve got one up on Chelsea supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern.
This is after Mark Ogden of The Telegraph stopped by to inform us that the Red Devils have moved ahead of the Blues in the race to sign Southampton star Luke Shaw.
Chelsea had been regarded as favourites to sign the £30 million rated left back, with reports suggesting Shaw was a boyhood supporter of the London club.
But United remain confident a lucrative contract offer and the promise of first team football to replace Patrice Evra next season will persuade Shaw his future lies at Old Trafford.
Whilst David Moyes has endured a torrid debut season in charge, the Scot is set to be given huge financial backing to turn things around in the summer.
Moyes has identified the 18-year-old as a top target, with big things expected of Shaw for both club and country over the coming years.
The youngster has enjoyed a fantastic campaign at St. Mary’s under Mauricio Pochettino, and could yet make Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
Chelsea remain determined to sign the youngster, but Shaw remains concerned about first team opportunities at Stamford Bridge.
Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic have been outstanding for the Blues this season, and Ashley Cole could yet sign a one year contract extension.
Where do you think Luke Shaw will end up this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
