Manchester United hopeful that star man will pen new contract

rooney.jpgManchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been impressed with the recent performances of Wayne Rooney.

Now Sam Wallace from The Independent reports that the Red Devils now believe that the England international could be prepared to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old former Everton forward future had been the source of constant speculation in the tavern following an attempt by new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to lure Rooney to Stamford Bridge.

Wallace suggests that the strong relationship between David Moyes and Rooney could help to resolve the issues that the player has with the club and could lead to talks about a new contract in the future.

The striker has now revealed how comfortable he feels playing for Moyes since the Scot took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer.

Rooney said: “It’s obviously good. He’s a great manager and thoroughly deserves this job because of what he did at Everton. It’s good to work under him and hopefully be successful together.

“I feel great. The training is a bit different under the new manager. I remember it from Everton. It’s more intense. That’s helping me. I feel good and am glad to be out playing.

“I have put my head down and worked hard and tried to do everything right. I have tried to show the right attitude. I have always felt that’s a really important thing to do. That’s paying off for me on the pitch. I feel fit and ready to do well.”

While the relationship clearly remain sensitive, Rooney’s strong early season form offers hope that he could be persuaded to stay longer than the two years remaining on his current deal.
