Manchester United in three way battle for Brazilian

marquinhos.jpgThe Football Transfer Tavern has come to a standstill and it’s all because of the news that Gary Jones, of the Daily Star, has for us; a transfer rumour that involves Manchester United, Barcelona, Roma AND Paris Saint-Germain.

The player being chased, by many of Europe’s elite, is Roma’s 19-year-old Brazilian defender Marquinhos and the player’s agent has admitted that Roma are ready to listen to offers.

His agent said: “Roma has told us that there is the possibility of a sale, and we’ll respect the decision they take.

“There are offers from PSG, Barcelona and Manchester United, and it’s possible the club accepts one of those.”

The former Corinthians ace has only been in Italy for a year but impressed last season and it was believed that French champions PSG were in pole position for the defender, with reports of a £30 million bid having been made.

Barcelona are rumoured to be in the market for a centre back but it is believed that Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva is their preferred target, which could mean, as a bloke from the snooker table just shouted over, that Marquinhos is Silva’s replacement.

In amongst all the speculation, one thing seems certain and that is that Roma have given Marquinhos their blessing to leave the club, as they have already signed his replacement – Moroccan internatiomal defender Mehdi Benatia from Udinese.

Who will win the race to land Marquinhos this summer, if he is to depart the Stadio Olimpico? Let us know your thoughts below.
