Manchester United want to sign Thomas Muller again now he’s out of favour at Bayern Munich, according to Sport Bild.
United were said to be interested in the German when Louis van Gaal was manager, but the report says they’re ready to finally make the deal happen in January.
The German has made 12 appearances this season, with six of those coming from the bench, but despite this, he’s still managed to assist five goals and score once.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already spoken about the requirement of experienced pros in the United setup when he discussed January transfers with Gary Neville on Sky Sports, so 30-year-old Muller appears to fit the bill.
They’re also short of attacking players with both Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku being offloaded to Inter Milan in summer, so they could do with some support for the forwards they have left.
Muller would be an ideal addition to a United squad that lacks killer instinct and experience because he’s proved he has those qualities at the very highest level, with a World Cup medal to show for it.
Marcus Rashford, 21, Anthony Martial, 23, and Daniel James, 21, are exciting players, but they may need an experienced pro to guide them to become better players, and there haven’t been many more complete forwards than Muller over the last 10 years.
Since making his debut for Bayern Munich in the 2009/10 season, he’s played 453 times, scoring 157 goals and assisting 120, all while playing either on the right of midfield, the middle of the park or as a centre-forward.
There’s no doubt he’d be able to handle the pressure of playing for Manchester United too, considering the major games he’s played in on the way to winning a World Cup, a Champions League and eight Bundesliga titles.
Signing Muller seems like a no-brainer and it appears to be the right time for him to finally move on from Bayern Munich too.
