The Daily Mirror report that Manchester United are the latest club monitoring the future of Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o with a view to a possible £5 million bargain move.
The Red Devils could now challenge Chelsea to the 32-year-old former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker as David Moyes seeks to add to his current strikeforce.
Eto’o had already declared that he wanted a reunion with his former Inter manager Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and the Stamford Bridge side were thought to be leading the race after giving up with United forward Wayne Rooney.
But a move to Old Trafford would be an attractive option for the current highest paid player in the world who has been told he can leave the Russian Premier League by Anzhi after their billionaire owner decided to withdraw all funds last week.
The Cameroonian striker accepts that he is fall back option for the Blues and some in the tavern suspect that the forward is trying to force Chelsea to the negotiating table as he is prepared to lower his salary to move to England.
Eto’o’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, insisted that talks with Chelsea in recent days had been positive but that the striker was willing to speak to any potential employer.
Will Eto’o prove to be Moyes’ marquee summer signing instead? Let us know your thoughts below.
