Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are still eagerly awaiting David Moyes’ first major arrival at Old Trafford, and this morning MirrorFootball fueled speculation that the Scot has targeted a move for Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil.
Moyes has been seeking to add to his midfield without any success so far this summer and the impressive German international would certainly fit the bill as the marquee signing the former Everton boss wants.
Madrid would be reluctant to sell the 24-year-old this summer, but it could help the Bernabeu side raise funds to pay for Tottenham star Gareth Bale with Spurs looking for a world-record fee.
United are looking to bring Everton’s midfield ace Marouane Fellaini to the club before the transfer window cloes, but they reportedly also want a technical midfielder as well.
Moyes has suffered a frustrating summer at Old Trafford after losing on Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara to Bayern Munich while they have seen two formal bids rejected from Barcelona for former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas.
The Scot admitted that, despite the recent disappointments, he still expected activity in the transfer window before the weekend.
“I’m confident we’ll have players in before the start of the season, yeah,” said the United boss on Thursday.
“We’re involved in several players we’re looking at and that will continue. Will we get them before the deadline? I hope so. But we’re working very hard to do so.
“This was always going to be a difficult window for me personally, because I joined Manchester United on July 1.
“So that’s given you a short period [in which to do deals] and also to get to know the players, to get to know the market.”
