Manchester United line up Bundesliga star as Ferdinand replacement

hummelsManchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are dying to hear the latest claim from the Daily Express.

The publication seem to think that the Red Devils will be moving to replace the outgoing Rio Ferdinand rather quickly, with a German star on their radar.

The club are keen on Borussia Dortmund player Mats Hummels who is seen as the ideal player to come in and restore some defensive solidity to the club after a season to forget.

United, as our punters remind us over a game of pool, finished 7th in the table – shocking for even a club like Arsenal – and the axe has fallen, notably on 35-year-old Ferdinand who did express a desire to stay at the club.

Ed Woodward and his board are keen on bringing in young stars who have a bit more pace and it is thought that the likes of BVB star Hummels will be perfect under manager elect Louis van Gaal.

Ferdinand is not the only star to leave this summer with Nemanja Vidic en route to the San Siro and Patrice Evra likely to follow him out of the door.

Do you think that Hummels can sufficiently replace one of the best ever defenders to wear the United shirt? Let us know your thoughts below.
