There are raised eyebrows here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed by talkSPORT that Manchester United are set to make a bid for a former Chelsea midfielder who was quite simply awful at Stamford Bridge.
Despite only making two appearances for the Blues during his time at the club, which only lasted a spell of two seasons, one of which was on loan, Sir Alex Ferguson is considering a move for Serbian international Nemanja Matic this summer.
The 24-year-old never really got a chance at Chelsea and given their managerial uncertainty during his spell at the club not to mention the wealth of midfield talent there, it is not so surprising that Fergie would feel a second chance could well be in order for the young player.
The unselfish deep lying midfielder was tipped to be one of the biggest prospects in European football and is now finally living up to this reputation being a crucial part in taking Benfica to the top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga, anchoring the team responsibly in midfield.
The Lisbon giants would not be pleased to receive an approach for the player yet the chance to join one of the biggest clubs on the world stage not to mention show Chelsea exactly what they missed out on may prove too greater lure for the player.
Could United pull off something of a surprise swoop for Matic? Rate this rumour below.
