Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are still holding out hope that Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas will make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
However today’s Mirror Football reports that David Moyes could switch his attention to Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger – if he fails with a final bid for the former Arsenal man this week.
There are reports in Germany that the 29-year-old German international does not fit into mew Bayern boss Pep Guardiola’s plans at the club and given United’s frustrations in trying to recruit a top class midfielder this summer, he may fit the bill at Old Trafford.
Moyes will make an final attempt to prise Fabregas away from the Camp Nou with a club-record bid of £35 million expected. United will now hope that the 26-year-old is willing to force a move away from his beloved club.
However if they are unsuccessful Moyes will have to look elsewhere with reports suggesting that Everton’s Marouane Fellaini is still a target but United are yet to trigger the £23.5 million release clause in the Belgian’s contract that is set to disappear. While Real Madrid insist that former Spurs man Luka Modric is not for sale which could leave Moyes looking to Germany instead.
Despite his age the German midfielder will still command a fee over £25 million but that could still be within Moyes’ budget ahead of fiercely fought Premier League title defence.
