Manchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are waiting for updates on their side’s pursuit for Everton’s Leighton Baines when The Express reports that David Moyes could now switch his attentions elsewhere.
Moyes has reportedly switched his thoughts to landing Southampton starlet Luke Shaw instead as the Red Devils look for a possible alternative to the Toffees defender.
United saw a £12 million bid rejected for the England international on Monday and the Goodison Park club maintain that both the former Wigan Athletic defender and Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini will not be sold this summer despite interest from Old Trafford.
The Saints left back has only recently put pen to paper on a new five-year deal to ensure he remains at the St. Mary’s during the summer and began the season as Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice full back to emphasise his increased importance to the South Coast side.
But United are understood to be looking at the teenager, who is valued at around £10 million, as a cheaper and youthful alternative for the 28-year-old established Premier League defender Baines.
United are expected to submit an increased £35 million double bid for the Everton pair during the next few days but Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is determined not to let his best two players leave so close to the transfer deadline.
That could see Moyes turning to Shaw as he looks for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra at Old Trafford although they could face competition from Tottenham and Arsenal who have both showed interest in the teenage defender.
Will United shelve plans regarding Baines and move for Shaw instead? Let us know your thoughts below.
