There is some huge breaking news in the Football Transfer Tavern with Mirror Football reporting that Manchester United are set to make a record breaking £50 million move for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani this summer.
The news has been met by gasps around the tavern with Chelsea known to be highly interested in the Uruguayan marksman and this could see an intense two-way transfer battle for the 26-year-old forward after Manchester City conceeded they couldn’t afford him last week.
Napoli are holding firm on not accepting less than the £53 million release clause in place for Cavani but an offer from the Red Devils for only a few million under this figure will be hard to resist.
It appears that United’s owners the Glazers are ready to back new manager David Moyes financially and this possible transfer would certainly be a statement of intent regarding their ambitions for the new campaign. Cavani arriving at Old Trafford could also spell the end of England international Wayne Rooney’s time at the club with Chelsea and Arsenal both interested.
Would United really splash as much as £50 million on Edinson Cavani this summer? Rate this rumour below.
