Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are happy to hear that the Daily Star is linking them with a January move for Everton defender Seamus Coleman.
Louis van Gaal is hoping his £25 million bid is enough to fend off interest from Chelsea who are also interested in the 26-year-old.
It is believed the Red Devils boss is hunting for more defensive reinforcements as his side fight to win the Premier League.
van Gaal has persisted with his 3-5-2 system and is beginning to get results from it but if he looks to play the system week in week out, he will need more depth in defence.
Many of our Red Devils regulars don’t have much faith in Rafael and Coleman will be able to suit van Gaal’s system perfectly as he has the ability to fulfill both the attacking and defending aspects of the wing back position.
Punters also feel that if they want to be competing for the title, they cannot rely on their inexperienced defence and it is key that van Gaal brings in seasoned professionals when acquiring defenders.
Manchester United nearly signed Coleman last summer which would have seen Maroune Fellaini used as a part-exchange option but the move never materialised.
