There are some rather disappointed faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro claim both Manchester United and Liverpool are set to miss out on Marco Reus.
This is of course bad news for the English duo with Reus staying at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for at least another season.
As one of our punters questions, if this is simply a tactic from the player or indeed Dortmund to extort more money from either of the interested parties, our landlord informs us of just what Borussia chief executive, Hans-Joachim Watzke , had to say.
He claimed: “We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave.
“Marco will play with us next season.
“There is no possibility that he will play elsewhere. We will try to tie him to our club for longer and we are proceeding with peace of mind that he will renew his deal.”
That of course means that both sides will have to look elsewhere and with the options now fading thick and fast, we wonder if that will mean an end to the spending or even worse according to our regulars – a panic buy!
Manchester United fans. Is this a huge blow for the club? Who would you target now to strengthen your side? Let us know your thoughts below.
