Some bad news for the regular group of Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern as emerged via The Telegraph, who are reporting that Manchester United are locked in a three-way battle with Manchester City and Barcelona for the services of central defender John Stones.
The England youngster is a wanted man this summer and incoming Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has placed Stones firmly at the top of his list of transfer targets.
In recent weeks City and Barcelona have both expressed a desire to sign the ex-Barnsley man and the Red Devils may have to move pretty quickly if they are to avoid an early blow in the transfer window.
A move to Manchester is probably more favourable to Stones than joining the Spanish outfit at this stage in his career but with City in a position to offer Champions League football, that could give them the edge ahead of the summer.
One Manchester United fan is sat waiting for the landlord to bring him over the meal he has ordered from the bar menu and he thinks Stones would be better served signing for United, stating that the Red Devils are a much bigger club that their city rivals, despite the Champions League lure.
Manchester United fans, would you be happy with the signing of Stones? Can he be a big player for years to come?
