Manchester United look to tie current star to long-term deal

David de GeaManchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are few in numbers today despite the Super Sunday clash against Liverpool earlier.

Those that have made their way to the bar have been informed by latest speculation The Mirror that Manchester United are increasing their efforts to sign goalkeeper David De Gea up to a long-term deal.

During the past season there have been murmurings in the tavern that Real Madrid and Barcelona both want to bring him back to his native Spain.

Now United want to move to ensure that the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper doesn’t prematurely end his time at Old Trafford with only two years left on his existing deal.

David Moyes will reportedly offer him an improved contract worth around £90,000-a-week for the £25 million-rated keeper.

We had our doubts about De Gea originally but he is now regarded as one of the best keepers in the league and he really is one of the most valuable assets at Old Trafford.

Do you think United are right to offer De Gea a new contract? Can you see him leaving in the near future? Let us know your thoughts below.
